Introduction
I research large-scale systems, services, and applications in the network environments of cloud, edge, and 5G/6G, spanning the following topics:
- AI systems, e.g., edge AI, federated/transfer/ensemble learning, distributed machine learning, and generative AI;
- Cloud/edge infrastructures, e.g., service provisioning, job scheduling, data management, and network telemetry;
- Energy systems, e.g., data center energy/carbon, demand response, and electric-vehicle-grid integration;
- Cybersecurity, e.g., distributed denial-of-service mitigation, and bot/anomaly detection;
- Multimedia, e.g., virtual reality, video streaming, gaming, and online social networks.
Featuring the synergy of computer science with engineering mathematics such as optimization, control, learning, game theory, and heuristics, my work investigates system efficiency, scalability, sustainability, and resilience through modeling, design, analysis, implementation, and evaluation. My research has been supported by funds from the National Science Foundation, including the CAREER award, and the industry. I primarily publish in networking and distributed computing journals (e.g., JSAC, ToN, TMC, TPDS) and conferences (e.g., INFOCOM, MOBIHOC, ICDCS, SECON, and ICNP).
I am a research associate professor at the University of Oregon, working with the Center for Cyber Security and Privacy. Previously I worked at Nokia Bell Labs in Ireland. I completed my Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) degree in computer science (Informatik) at the University of Göttingen (Georg-August-Universität Göttingen), Germany, where my work was part of EU projects. I received the Ripple Faculty Fellowship, the Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs UK and Ireland Recognition Award, and the Best Paper Awards of IEEE CNS 2019 and IEEE LANMAN 2013. I was a guest editor of JSAC. I have been on the program committees as a track (co-)chair for ICDCS and as a member for conferences such as INFOCOM, MOBIHOC, ICDCS, WWW, and IWQoS. I have also served as the program chair of multiple workshops with INFOCOM and ICDCS.
